Design students to decorate bus stops at Abrenes Street terminal

On June 14 young artists studying design in the Latvian Academy of Arts will start implementing an outdoor design project at bus stops of the Abrenes Street terminal. Following an initiative of "Rīgas satiksme", the students will change the exterior of six bus stops at the Abrenes Street terminal by giving them artistically individual look.

"Rīgas satiksme" manages public transport stops at terminals. The terminal of Abrenes Strete is located in the very heart of Riga and is the biggest one, therefore "Rīgas satiksme" proposed the students of the Latvian Academy of Arts to try their forces in reviving the urban environment. Having received several interesting proposals, the company has decided to give the author of every idea an opportunity to implement it by creating individual decoration for each of the six bus stops.

Ilga Bērziņa, head of "Rīgas satiksme" Transportation Section: "Every day this terminal serves several thousands of passengers arriving here and leaving from here. They need a place where to put their luggage and wait for the next bus. I am sure that the design of the bus stops will create positive emotions and make waiting for buses more pleasant."

Every day the bus terminal in Abrenes Street serves almost a half of all bus routes managed by "Rīgas satiksme". It is a point of departure and arrival for 30 bus routes which deliver passengers to near and remote districts of Riga, including Vecmīlgrāvis, Jaunciems, Zolitūde, Dārziņi, Mežaparks, "Riga airport", Mārupe, Piņķi, as well as many other destinations in and around the city.
